Bipasha was born on the 7 January 1979 in New Delhi, later moving with her family to Kolkata. She is the second of three sisters. The other two are Bidisha and Vijayeta. Bipasha studied science. Her repulsion towards dissecting animals, prompted her to move away from medicine to commerce. She did her schooling at Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir and her college years were spent at Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society College. In her spare time, she took up some modelling assignments. She participated in the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest and walked away as the winner. She moved to New York, courtesy the Ford agency, where she continued with her modelling, until she decided to pack her bags and head back to India, landing in Bollywood. She has appeared in Sonu Nigam's Video 'Tu' from his album Kismat as well as Jay Sean's video 'Stolen'. Bipasha Basu dated some of the hunkiest men like Milind Soman and Dino Morea before settling on John Abraham. A photograph of her kissing footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, raised questions on whether her relationship with John Abraham was in trouble. Bipasha Basu turn into glam for 'Singularity': Bipasha Basu can be viewed taking on a Maratha warrior in renowned Anglo French picture executive Roland Joffe's Hollywood saga picture 'Singularity'. The picture is certain to daze her fans and groups of onlookers as the sexy performer will be perceived without makeup in her first Hollywood venture!

The picture which should be shot in India and South Africa is assumably a love story of a British officer, around the same time as the pilgrim period in India.

Bipasha plays Tulaja, a Maratha warrior who falls in love with the British officer played by Josh Hartnett. 'Star Trek' fame Chris Pine too will be a part of the project.

Coincidentally, the actress loves to sport the de-glam look off-screen and hates to wear makeup. As a result, Bipasha was extremely relieved when she was told she had to look as natural as possible onscreen.

Bipasha Basu signs $33 million International Project: After sizzling on Bollywood screen for almost a decade, dusky beauty Bipasha Basu has signed her first international project — English-French director Roland Joffe’s Singularity.

The 31-year-old is extremely excited and admits she does have butterflies in her stomach. “I am very excited…but have to admit that I am also a little nervous. Everything happened really fast,” Bipasha told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

Bipasha met Joffe in a chance encounter at the Taj Land’s End Hotel in Mumbai in September. The $33 million movie, written by Ajey Jhankar, is a riveting tale of an impossible love set across two time periods and continents.

It is set in the backdrop of the First Anglo-Maratha War of the 18th century and revolves around four characters – a British officer in colonial India and the Indian woman he falls in love with, an American marine biologist and his researcher lover — who gets trapped in a wrecked British merchant ship. The film will be shot in Australia and India.

Bipasha will be flying to Brisbane in the first week of November. Bipasha, who will be missing Diwali for the initial rehearsals for the film, says she would have loved to get some more time to prepare for her role. “I am not getting much of preparation time right now. I have been given just eight days to prepare for underwater scenes and horse riding…I wish I had at least a month’s time for preparation,” she said. As much as she would have liked to, Bipasha is also not getting much time to brush up on her history.

“There is just no time before I fly out! I have finished all my pending endorsement assignments and now I will try and grasp whatever I can there itself,” she said. Nevertheless, she is looking forward to working with Hollywood actors.

“The script is fantastic. They have a lot of expertise in their field…it’s going to be a whole lot of hard work, and it’s going to be great fun to adapt to their system of working,” she said.
Singularity also stars Bollywood Actor Abhay Deol besides Hollywood stars Chris Pine, Josh Hartnett, Olga Kurylenko, Christopher Egan and Shane Briant, among others.

Bipasha will shoot from the third week of November till the last week of December in Brisbane. Her upcoming Indian projects include Dum Maaro Dum and Abbas-Mustan’s Players.

Bipasha is glad that Abbas-Mustan, who gave her a launchpad with 2001 film Ajnabee, were accommodating enough to adjust their dates so that she could give her nod to Singularity.

Speaking about the film, Bipasha Basu says, "Singularity is a milestone in my career. I cannot express in words how happy I am to sign this film. I met Roland in Mumbai in September. When he narrated the story to me, I liked it and agreed to do the role. It is a love story that spans two continents and is being made on a budget of Rs. 150 crore. The film revolves around four characters."

"The film will be shot in Australia and India. I will be going to Brisbane this week to participate in rehearsals (meant for underwater scenes and horse riding) for it," she adds. Abhay Deol too plays an important role in the film.
